The new owners of the Wymondham Food and Wine convenience store on Harts Farm are working hard to improve the shop’s appeal. There are now more customers. Good times 😀
Sadly, the increased footfall resulted in more litter outside the shop. Bad times ☹️
Cllr Julian Fulcher and I live on Harts Farm and had noticed the extra rubbish when we walked past the shop. Julian is the Town Councillor for Harts Farm and he wanted to see if there was something we could do about it. We spoke to the shop’s new owners who said they had spoken to their agents about installing a bin but were getting nowhere.
We took a few photos and approached Wymondham Town Council to see if it was possible to get a new green waste bin placed close to the shop’s entrance. After a few weeks a new bin duly arrived, just outside the shop. It is now well used and there is far less litter on the ground. Great times!
What really pleasantly surprised us was the response we received when we posted on the Harts Farm FB page about our initiative. People were so supportive and it turns out several residents had started actively clearing up the area of their own volition.
Volunteers include 5-year-old Rupert Keable who helped his mum Milly clear up all the rubbish you see can see in the photos. Other residents including Emma and Sophie, have not only picked litter and swept up broken glass, they have repainted the tired looking bike racks too.
If you would like to join organised litter picks in Wymondham then Greening Wymondham organise regular events – with tea and cake as a reward – what’s not to like?
Want to report an overflowing waste bin or street cleaning issue to South Norfolk Council? You can do that here.
